Male black cat names are usually very catchy. When it comes to naming your cat, I think you have to factor in their character and appearance.

Taking that into consideration, there is going to be obvious references to the color of the cat’s fur when naming a black cat.

I have to thank the black cat community on Facebook for their help with this blog post, there are some great names here!

If I had to pick my favorites out of this list I’d say Coal, Midnight, Ninja, and Onyx but there are many more great names.

We have a male American Shorthair and we named him Coco.

We took him in from the streets when he was just a few months old.

We live on the sun-drenched island of Gran Canaria and the street cats here tend to change color slightly in the sun.

We noticed that at the time Coco wasn’t very black at all, the sun had faded the pigment in his fur and he was a reddy-brown color, especially his ears.

His color really reminded me of a Coconut shell, so that was it! From that day on, he was known as Coco.

Coco has a very distinct character and often has his crazy moments where he chases his own tail and stuff…

As I’m sure you know, loco means crazy in Spanish so we often call him ‘Coco Loco’.

Male black cat names shouldn’t be hard to come up with, my advice would be to go with what grabs you first and don’t overthink it.

Coco’s name came to us easily and we can’t imagine him being called anything else…
