In the heart of California lies an extraordinary sanctuary, home to over 1,100 felines. This haven, known as ‘The Cat House on the Kings,’ is the largest no-cage sanctuary for feral and abandoned cats in the state. The woman behind this remarkable endeavor is Lynea Lattanzio, who has dedicated her life to rescuing and caring for these cats.

Lynea’s journey began in 1992 when her father asked her to help him find some new cats. She visited an animal shelter and ended up bringing home 15 kittens.

By the end of the year, she had rescued and rehomed 96 cats. It was then she realized her calling.

The Cat House on the Kings is no ordinary sanctuary. Spanning 12 acres, it provides a safe and free environment for the cats to roam. The sanctuary is equipped with a hospital, an ICU, a kitten quarantine, and a senior quarantine. It also has a team of seven vet techs on staff, ensuring the cats receive the best medical care.

The sanctuary’s annual expenses, including food, litter, maintenance, staffing, and veterinary medical costs, amount to 1.6 million US dollars. Despite the high costs, Lynea has never wavered in her commitment to the cats. She even became a veterinary technician in 1993 to help keep the animals’ medical costs down.

Lynea’s dedication extends beyond providing a safe haven for the cats. Her ultimate goal is to find them loving homes. Of the 1,100 cats at the sanctuary, 500 are ready for adoption. Prospective adopters can visit the sanctuary’s website and fill out an adoption form.

Lynea’s love for cats is evident in every aspect of her life. She even moved out of her 4,200 square foot home to make more room for the cats. Now residing in a mobile home on the property, Lynea continues to oversee the sanctuary’s operations.

Despite the challenges, Lynea finds immense satisfaction in her work. She takes pride in knowing that she has made a difference in the lives of so many cats. As she puts it, “I may not be able to solve the world’s problems, but I can provide a loving home for these cats, and that brings me immense joy.”

The Cat House on the Kings is a testament to Lynea’s unwavering dedication and love for cats. Her story serves as an inspiration to animal lovers everywhere, reminding us of the difference one person can make in the lives of many.

In a world where countless cats are abandoned and left to fend for themselves, Lynea Lattanzio stands as a beacon of hope. Her work with The Cat House on the Kings continues to change the lives of cats, one rescue at a time.
