is owning a black cat lucky

Is owning a black cat lucky? We’ve all heard about black cat superstitions and some people think that black cats are unlucky, some people think that they are lucky.

I’m not really going to get too much into the superstition side of things in this blog post because I’ve already covered it here.

Here’s 4 reasons why I think owning a black cat is lucky…

You are Doing a Good Thing

I am a firm believer that if you do good deeds in this world then good things come your way.

Cat shelters around the world a full of black cats for two main reasons.

The first reason is the negative sentiment towards black cats due to superstition and the second reason is that black is the most common color of cats.

We have an American Shorthair called Coco and we took him in from the streets. We can see just how grateful he is to live with us and he brings joy to us each and every day!

I’d say that Coco is lucky to not have to worry where his next meal is coming from and he doesn’t have to worry about the dangers of things like getting hit by a car.

At the same time we feel lucky to have Coco, he just appeared into our lives one day and he has brought us nothing but happiness.

Science is Showing just how Lucky Black Cats Are

Science is now revealing the reasons for some cats being black.

It’s not random or just that some cats are black, just because…

Science is suggesting that it’s a survival of the fittest gene. The very gene that makes cats black may also come with a package of other very useful strengths.

Black cats are known to be less prone to illness. You can read more about it here in one of my other blog posts.

Having a healthy cat has to be pretty lucky don’t you think?

Those that Believe in Good Luck Charms

There are cultures around the world that believe that owning a black cat is lucky.

In the United Kingdom having a black cat come to your doorstep is said to be lucky.

Gifting a bride a black cat on her wedding day is said to bring luck to the marriage in England.

In Japanese culture, a woman in pursuit of a partner is thought to have increased luck by owning a black cat.

Is owning a black cat lucky to these people? I suppose it’s all down to your own personal beliefs and how superstitious you are.

You Keep Unwanted People Away

Now this one is a little light-hearted…

If someone believes that black cats are bad luck and you have a black cat, this person will probably not want to be in or around your home.

Surely that’s a great thing! The best luck of all… lol

People that are scared of or judge a cat by the color of its fur aren’t really my kind of person.

Lucky for me, they won’t want to be around our Coco.

So again, is owning a black cat lucky? lol

My Final Thoughts

As you can probably tell from the tone of this blog post, I don’t really subscribe to superstitions.

If you do, then you are entitled to that but it’s really not my thing.

Do Black Cats Bring Good Luck?

I’m a firm believer in making your own luck in this world and to some, the life that I have is considered ‘lucky’ but I’d say it’s by design.

Coco is an amazing, handsome, and intelligent cat and he appeared into our lives and a time when bringing a cat into our home was right.

We fell in love with him and he fell in love with us and I think love stands way above luck in this world…
