Do black cats mean good luck? In some countries and cultures, a black cat is a sign of good luck. However, it has to be said that for the most part, the opposite is true with many people still not being too thrilled if a black cat walks in front of them.
A Witches Best Friend
We have to talk about why black cats are seen as a symbol of bad luck and even evil in some cases!
The reason for this is that for hundreds and hundreds of years now, black cats have been linked to witches.
If there is a cat that is bad in a movie, book, or tv show. The majority of the time you can bet that the cat will be black!
Helping You Find Someone Special
In Japan, black cats are not always shooed away or thought to be unlucky.
As a matter of fact, in Japan, it is thought that a black cat is lucky for a single woman as it may bring her many potential people looking to date!

Black Cats Can Equal Fat Stacks!
Going back to Japan, you have probably seen those adorable statues/figurines of cats with their paws up.

Black Cats Are Good Enough For A Norse God!
One of the most interesting takes on black cats bringing good luck is from Norse mythology.

Freya would look after farmers who left milk for her cats by giving them a good harvest.
Black Cats Should Be Adored
We have all seen people get a little nervous when a black cat walks past or ignore one that wants some attention and it is not ok!
Black cats are loving, adorable, and super cute creatures that deserve as much love and attention as any other color of cat.
While there is all this ancient superstition about cats, it is always important to remember that a black cat needs love too!
My Thoughts
In all honesty, I don’t subscribe to good luck/bad luck superstitions especially when it comes to the color of a cat’s fur.
We have an American Shorthair called Coco and he has brought nothing but joy into our lives.
He arrived at our doorstep one day, brought to us by his Mom and it was a lovely and unexpected surprise.
We feel lucky to have such a wonderful cat living with us and the best part of it is that he actually wants to be with us.
When our front door or garage door is opened he often runs away as he prefers the safety of the house.
So do black cats mean good luck? In this sense yes. There are millions of black cat lovers around the world!
If a black cat crossing your path is a sign of bad luck then I must be cursed for all eternity!
A black cat crosses my path hundreds of times per week…
