Crazy Cat Facts

There’s never a day that goes by where I’m not amazed by cats.

Our black cat fascinates us every day with his habits, intelligence, and behavior.

Domestic cats’ reliance on humans for survival is mind-blowing when you think about it deeply.

The fact that they’ve learned to live and integrate with humans is wonderful. While we’re here admiring the cat/human relationship, here’s 5 crazy cat facts that you may not know…

Sleep

Cats sleep for around 60-70% of their lives!

Apparently, around 1/3 of the time that they’re awake is spent cleaning themselves.

Wow, I thought I could sleep for a long time!

Cats have evolved to sleep for long periods of time in order to conserve their energy for hunting.

A sweet tooth?

Did you know that cats do not have the ability to taste sweet things?

Cats lack the receptor that detects sweetness and are known as “sweet blind”.

Lefty or righty?

Cats can be left-pawed or right-pawed.

You may now notice that your cat prefers to use one paw over the other, especially when playing.

Typically female cats tend to be right-pawed and male cats tend to be left-pawed.

I’m going to pay more attention to which paw Coco favors from now on…

Brains

Did you know that a cat’s brain is more similar to a human brain than a dog’s brain?

Studies may suggest that cats have emotional intelligence.

A cat’s brain is around 90% similar to ours! Amazing…

Tremors

Cats a very sensitive to vibrations and can be easily unsettled by vibrational changes.

A cat may detect an earthquake 10 to 15 minutes before we do.

My Final Thoughts

These facts are amazing and only scratch the surface when it comes to how fascinating domestic cats are.

I’ve enjoyed writing this article and will continue to research further and put together another one of these.

Time to play with Coco and see if he is a left-pawed cat after all…
